Emergency Lighting

Emergency Lights are self contained units that illuminate when the 230 volt AC mains supply has been lost. These lights then direct the building occupants via the recognised fire escapes to safe passage to the outside of the building.
Emergency lighting is primarily intended to provide sufficient illumination to enable people to see their way safely out of a building in cases of emergency and falls into five categories:

Logic Fire & Security are members of SELECT and design, install and maintain emergency lighting systems to BS 5266. In the case of large complex buildings our designs are supplemented by our working partners Emergi-Lite. Further information on the products can be found at www.emergi-lite.co.uk.

Do I need Emergency Lighting?

The new Fire Scotland Act 2005 (www.opsi.gov.uk) requires the ‘responsible person’ to consider all aspects of fire safety within the building, including the provision of Emergency Lighting. He/she has a duty to ensure that all staff can exit safely through an illuminated escape route in the event of a mains failure. This can be checked by arranging to have a Fire Risk Assessment carried out (please see our insert on fire risk assessment).

Do I need to have my Emergency Lighting system maintained?

Yes, in accordance with BS 5266 your system should be maintained twice a year. Such a maintenance contract is available from us where an engineer will make bi-annual visits.
